Naushad Ahmed, BA(hons), LLb is the principal lawyer at the Equity Law Group. After completing his degree in economics and politics from the University of London, Naushad went on to study law at York Law School in England, and was qualified as a lawyer in the United Kingdom in October 1994. Naushad led a highly distinguished practice with leading London law firms, gaining substantial experience in all major areas of law, and representing a diverse range of clients.
Following this successful career in London, England, spanning 16 years, Naushad moved to British Columbia where he qualified and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2010. His vast experience includes real estate, business transactions, ICBC claims & litigation and most other areas of general practice.
Giovanni Mata is an associate lawyer at the Equity Law Group and was called to the Bar in 2016. Prior to joining the firm as an Articling student, he headed his immigration consulting office as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) with specialization in immigration litigation and appeals, inadmissibility proceedings, business immigration, LMIA applications, work permit for NAFTA professionals, temporary and permanent residency applications.
Giovanni is also a lawyer in the Philippines and still a member of good standing of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. Before coming to Canada in 2012, he was into private law practice for over ten (10) years, specializing in litigation, appeals, immigration and business law in the Philippines.
Giovanni is a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP®|FIBP®). His practice covers immigration and refugee law, personal injury/ICBC claims, family law, and litigation.
Ramanjit Sohi is an Associate lawyer at the Equity Law Group. After completing his Law degree from Birmingham City University (United Kingdom), he worked at various places in the UK and had exposure to different legal fields including Personal injury & Immigration. After immigrating to Canada, he successfully obtained his NCA Certificate of qualification. He has worked at various places in Canada gathering vast legal knowledge working as Compliance Manager at various places before joining our team. He has also worked in other law firms gaining knowledge about Personal Injury, immigration, and Criminal law.
Ramez Alam is a lawyer at the Equity Law Group. Ramez obtained his J.D. from Thompson Rivers University in 2016 and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of British Columbia in 2012. Prior to joining the firm as an articling student, he worked with both a leading family law practice in the downtown Vancouver area and a commercial real estate firm. Ramez has represented clients at both the provincial and supreme court level, in mediations, and in case conferences. Additionally, he has helped with the acquisition and sales of major downtown Vancouver properties.
Ramez was involved in the law school community in several ways. He was a director of the South Asian Law Students’ Association, was enrolled in the TRU Environmental Law Club, and was an active member of a variety of intramural teams.
Ransiri Fernando has over 25 years of cumulative litigation experience acquired internationally and in Canada. He was called to the Bar in Sri Lanka in 1989 where he served as a prosecutor and then as a general litigation lawyer. In the year 2014 Ransiri was called to the Bar in BC after he successfully challenged the transition examinations conducted by the National Committee on Accreditation. Post call, he has worked as a staff lawyer for the Legal Aid Commission in Saskatchewan and as a general litigator at Binpal & Associates in Surrey BC. He joins Equity with additional experience gained in the field of workers compensation law and policies after working as a case manager for Work Safe BC.
Ransiri has tremendous court experience. He undertakes litigation from builders’ liens, breach of contract, injunctions to negligence and serious personal injury. In criminal litigation he has defended in cases involving sexual assault, spousal assault, attempted murder, firearms, driving offences and break and enter.
Ransiri is easy to talk to and he maintains excellent client relations. He has very good people skills and is known to maintain very productive professional relations with court and other counsel.
Munir Riasat is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and a member in good standing of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC). Munir immigrated to Canada in 1980, and learned, first-hand, the challenges and difficulties individuals face when moving to a new country. He persevered though, and went on to a successful career in international business and human resource consulting.
In 1998 with his personal experience of immigrating in mind, Mr. Riasat decided to make helping other immigrants his life work and started to work as immigration consultant. He practices in all areas of immigration, including appearing before the Immigration Appeal Division, Refugee Protection Division and Immigration Division.
Today, Munir is one of the most respected immigration consultants in B.C. He was formerly an instructor for the Immigration Diploma Program at Ashton College, and co-authored the on-line Immigration Diploma Program curriculum program for the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC). Moreover, he served as National Director of Education for the Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants (CAPIC). As a result of his expertise, Munir has been asked to make presentations at immigration conferences throughout the country and is often quoted in local and national media.
